Preschool

Language Arts

Literacy skills becomes a major emphasis during the preschool year. Children focus on learning and recognizing their own full name as well as other students and teachers in the classroom. Listening and speaking etiquette is a part of their daily routine. Books from all genres are used so that the student will learn the title of book as well as learning the letters and sounds. By year end, the goal is for all students to know the letters and sounds of the alphabet in random order.

Mathematics

Mathematics is focused on calendar, number counting and recognition, geometric shapes, patterns, sequencing, and measurement. There are a variety of manipulatives that used in the classroom for instruction as well objects that the children bring from home. Students are encouraged to explore and find the numbers and shapes located in their home and around their community.

Social Studies

Social Studies focuses on family, holidays, community citizens, and being a good friend. Students explore their family tree and learn members of their immediate and distant families. Each holiday is explored and discussed during each unit. Students will learn about day and the traditions that are related to the holiday.

Science

Science begins with students learning about themselves. Specifically, how they are special and how they are different from their friends. The five senses are then explained and how they are used. They then start learning about the various types of animals: nocturnal, winter animals, pond life, and Florida and ocean animals. Other topics include plants, magnets, weather, and nutrition.
